MAKE YOUR OWN SUMMER FLOWER CROWNS
A simple, beautiful way to carry a little bit of nature with you.
Summer is full of tiny treasures—fallen petals, dried grasses, little flowers catching the sun. Why not turn them into something magical? A flower collar (or necklace!) made with dried blooms is a gentle, creative way for children (and grown-ups) to slow down, notice the beauty around them, and craft something to wear or gift.
Here’s how to make your own:
YOU’LL NEED:
- A small collection of dried flowers and grasses (picked or saved from a walk)
- Soft twine, thread, or yarn
- A needle (a blunt tapestry needle works well for kids)
- Scissors
- Optional: A tiny bit of clear glue for extra hold
TIPS:
- These crowns are delicate—perfect for a special moment or a nature-themed celebration.
- You can also wrap them around a sun hat, hang them in a window, or use them to decorate a gift.
- You can use our frame to make a beautiful composition and hang a piece of summer in a special corner at home!
HOW TO DO IT:
- Gather your blooms
Go on a mini nature walk! Look for flowers that dry well—like daisies, lavender, tiny wild roses, chamomile, or wheat-like grasses. Let them dry for a few days if they aren’t already. - Plan your pattern
Lay your flowers out in the order you like. Mix colors, textures, and shapes—or go wild and random! Nature doesn’t do “wrong.” - Thread the needle
Cut your twine or thread to the length you want (a short necklace or collar works beautifully). Thread your needle and tie a big knot at the end. - Start stitching
Gently pierce the stems or bases of the dried flowers and slide them along the thread. If they’re very fragile, you can use a tiny dot of glue to secure them instead. - Tie it up
Once you’ve filled your thread with flowers, tie the ends together, and voilà! You’ve made a little piece of wearable summer.
Making flower crowns is less about perfection and more about noticing, pausing, and creating with what the season offers. A simple way to carry a bit of sunshine wherever you go.
