LET’S MAKE SOME SALT DOUGH TAGS OR ORNAMENTS!
The holidays bring with them some more time for fun activities, right? So this is our little proposal for an easy and quick craft activity which you can make festive-themed!
How about we prepare some salt dough to create our own decorations? They can become ornaments or tags to hang on your bag, a storage box or around the home!
You may already be familiar with the salt dough recipe, but we’ve included it just in case.
INGREDIENTS
To get 10-12 tags or ornaments, you’ll need:
- 240g of all-purpose flour
- 125g of salt.
- 125ml of cold water.
You can adjust these quantities to yield more or fewer pieces.
MATERIALS
- A mixing bowl.
- Spoon or spatula for mixing.
- A rolling pin
- A knife
- A tray with a baking sheet.
- Toothpicks.
- Thread
- (Optional) Paint or glitter to decorate.
STEP 1
In your mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients.
Continue by adding the water, a little bit at a time and mixing well before adding more.
Spread some flour on a flat and dry surface so the dough doesn’t stick.
Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes.
STEP 2
Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough to, approximately, 0,5cm thickness.
Sprinkle more flour if it starts sticking.
Then cut the dough into long stripes and divide into rectangles or any other shape you want!
STEP 3
Using a toothpick, make a hole on each tag to thread a string later and transfer them to the tray with a baking sheet.
If you want, you can paint or decorate the ornaments before baking them.
TA-DA!
Now you’ve got these amazing ornaments or tags to use and place wherever you want!
Hand them in your xmas tree or anywhere in your home, for example!
Or you can use them to customise a bag or package. For example, in this photo, you can see the Japanese fabric wrapping technique called ‘furoshiki’ which is a beautiful and useful alternative to other plastic wrapping or bags!
